Mid Northern Rodeo cowboys abuse animal advocates

Jan162019
NEWS FEED

Animal advocates who were inside the Mid Northern Rodeo were told by rodeo organisers they could not film using high definition cameras.

Rodeo organisers stopped the rodeo to tell the activists they must stop filming or they would be trespassed.

Direct Animal Action spokesperson Apollo Taito says this is typical of rodeo cowboys who don’t want wider New Zealand to know what really goes on at rodeos.

“Only yesterday it was revealed that rodeo cowboys failed to mention the death of a second animal, a horse, at Gisborne Rodeo.”

“There is a lack of transparency in rodeo that’s seriously concerning. What are they hiding? Are they afraid another animal will die today and it will be caught on camera?”

“Rodeo is beyond appalling and we’ve had a guts full of cowboys abusing animals for fun.”

“If another animal dies in a rodeo arena this season, how many times do we have to say it? The Government needs to ban this outdated and outrageous cruelty now,” said Mr Taito.
