Funeral Today for Wally Yovich

Aug72015
NEWS FEED

Today a funeral will be held outside business man Wally Yovich’s downtown office. The Grim Reaper will join a group of protesters in black mourning clothes to call on Yovich to pull funding for a proposed new colony cage egg factory farm.[1]

“We’re holding a symbolic funeral in honour of the 300, 000 caged hens that will suffer and die in Wally’s cruel colony cage egg factory farm,” says Stop Craddock Farms spokesperson Deirdre Sims.

The funeral is also in memory of caged egg farming practice in New Zealand.

“With fast-food giant McDonald’s recent announcement that they’ll switch to cage free eggs by 2016, the writing’s on the wall for caged egg farming. It’s a dying industry that should be laid to rest,” [2]

“We’re working really hard to stop Craddock Farms building one of the country’s biggest colony cage egg factory farms. If Wally pulls his financial support from the factory farm, it will go a long way towards stopping construction of this caged hen hell hole,” says Ms Sims.

[1] Yovich is investing millions into a company called Craddock Farms to build one of New Zealand’s biggest colony cage egg factory farms in Patumahoe. Auckland City Council declined the company’s application earlier this year but Craddock Farms are appealing in the Environment Court.

[2] In New Zealand, all battery cages must be replaced with colony cages by 2022. This is the same year that more progressive countries like Austria, Germany and Switzerland are phasing out colony cages showing that we are falling behind international trends.
