Council Denies Consent to Craddock Farms!

Campaign group Stop Craddock Farms and Direct Animal Action congratulate the Auckland City Council for declining consent for cage egg producer Craddock Farms to build a mega caged hen farm in Patumahoe, South Auckland.

Spokesperson Deirdre Sims says, “The proposed caged hen facility would have been the biggest of its kind in our country, confining 310,000 hens to cruel cages that contravene the Animal Welfare Act,”

“We have campaigned tirelessly to stop Craddock Farms building a giant caged hen hell hole that would have entrenched caged farming as the future for New Zealand,”

“The Green Party, the RNZSPCA and animal rights group SAFE all spoke out strongly against the proposed atrocity and we are so pleased that Auckland City Council have declined the application,”

“We want to see a ban on all cages for hens and will be keeping a close eye on Craddock Farms in case they try to build their mega factory farm somewhere else,” says Ms. Sims.
